My First MeMe

Now, I think this qualifies as a MeMe, I'm not really sure one way or the other. I nicked it off Bethanne's MySpace site, and it's a chance to stick some mp3s up without actually having to think much through...

List 10 bands/artists that you like.(*in no order*)Then answer the questions.
1. Low
2. Groop Dogdrill
3. Caribou
4. Four Tet
5. Adem
6. Frank Black
7. Kristin Hersh
8. Tanya Donelly
9. Mogwai
10. Sigur Ros

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
I guess that would have been Thallasocracy, from Teenager Of The Year(4AD), by default of it being the first track on the first FB album I listened to after falling in love with the Pixies. It's still his best, I don't care what you say.

What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
"Everybody needs some help sometime" from These Are Your Friends (Homesongs, Domino). Kind of obvious I know, but it sticks in your head due to it being repeated about a million times.

How many times have you seen 4 live?
None, curses. I hope to go see Keiran Hebden doing the live thing with Steve Reid soon if everything is alright.

What's your favourite song of 7 ?
You're kidding me... Maybe Me & My Charms (Hips & Makers, 4AD) Today, anyway, ask me tomorrow I tell you anew.

What is a good memory you have concerning the music of 10?
Listening to () on the way home on a rainy February evening coming to the conclusion that Sigur Ros make everything good.

Name a song by 3 that makes you sad?
They all make me sad in a Snaith=genius-status-that-I-will-never-attain kind of way... Maybe Brahminy Kite (The Milk Of Human Kindness, Leaf), that seems to encapsulate everything that's great about Caribou: the music is so joyous though, it's difficult to stay in a huff and not get carried away with how lovely it is.

What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
"Give it Taylor, what'd he say? Get your hands off me!"

What is your favourite song by 9?
Really, you picked the hardest ones to ask this question for. One of Hunted By A Freak; Ratts Of The Capital; Glasgow Mega-Snake; Summer; Like Herod; Mogwai Fear Satan.
That probably doesn't help at all. If you pointed a gun at my head, I'd probably say... please don't shoot me. Buy.

How did you get into 3?
Em provided the Manitoba album Up In Flames (featuring Jacknuggeted) for my listening perusal and was quite right: it is an excellent record. So obviously I was interested to pick up Dan Snaith's new guise (full story here), courtesy of the nice press folks at Leaf.

What's your favourite song by 4?
Toughie again: I have to give credit where it's due to Spirit Fingers which makes my jaw drop every time I hear it, but I can't not say She Moves She.

What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
They put on maybe the absolute best show (joint with number 8 here) that I've ever seen, a full-on rock and roll barrage at the Joiners Arms, Southampton. Sweaty, loud, raucous and shouty, it was just perfect.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
They all do, a little bit. Maybe Acrobat more than any.

What is your favourite song of 1?
You kill me again: Laser Beam. I'm going to see them do this live soon. I'm excited.

These things are supposed to be done by other people now, so we'll see where it goes: you there, Em, Dean, do this.

Sir,
If I am reading correctly, I fear you are mistaken; I do believe the first track on Teenager of the Year is in fact 'Whatever Happened to Pong?' and not 'Thalassocracy'.

However, you are not mistaken that it in, indeed, his finest of works, yo.

I make mistakes like this on a highly regular, semi-professional basis. Sorry.

I'm no good at these sorts of things!
